Advanced materials are essential for boosting the fuel economy of modern automobiles while maintaining safety and performance. As the mobility industry evolves toward hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid electric, and electric vehicles, advanced materials take on a greater significance. Using lightweight materials in these vehicles can offset the weight of power systems such as batteries and electric motors, improving efficiency and increasing their all-electric range.
Lightweight structural materials in vehicles can also allow emission control systems, safety devices, and integrated electronic systems without increasing the overall weight of the vehicle. The roles and benefits of aluminum, steel, plastics, rubber, and magnesium in vehicles today will be examined and discussed at this SAA event.
