The Role of Lightweighting in Mobility’s Evolution
Advanced materials are essential for boosting both the fuel economy and emissions reduction of modern automobiles while maintaining safety and performance. As the mobility industry evolves toward hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid electric, and electric vehicles, advanced materials take on a greater significance, particularly as vehicle affordability is paramount. Using lightweight materials in these vehicles can offset the weight of power systems such as batteries and electric motors, improving efficiency and increasing their all-electric range.
Lightweight structural materials in vehicles can also allow emission control systems, safety devices, and integrated electronic systems without increasing the overall weight of the vehicle. This SAA event will examine and discuss the roles and benefits of aluminum, steel, composites, glass, and magnesium in vehicles today.
The event will also feature the winner of the Innovations in Lightweighting Award. Click here to enter the competition.
